Several streets in Thu Duc City, under Ho Chi Minh City, were submerged by floodwaters following an hours-long downpour on Friday afternoon.
The downpour, which started as soon as 4:00 pm, lasted until 9:00 pm, inundating many streets, including To Ngoc Van, Pham Van Dong, Ho Van Tu, Dang Van Bi, La Xuan Oai, and Le Van Viet.
Notably, the rainwater reached one meter deep on To Ngoc Van Street, stalling many motorbikes.
A combination of cold air and a low-pressure system strengthened offshore triggered rains across the country, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
“The rain that occurred in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday evening was very heavy, with rainfall measured in Can Gio District reaching 107 millimeters and 94 millimeters in Thu Duc City,” said Le Dinh Quyet, deputy head of the Forecasting Department under the Southern Region Hydro-meteorological Station.
Rains are forecast to continue on Saturday, according to Quyet.
