Vietnam’s northern region is about to be hit by heavy rains that can cause flooding starting Sunday through most of next week after experiencing hot weather over the past several days, according to the central weather agency.
From June 5 to 10, the northern region will have moderate to heavy rains, together with thunderstorms in many localities, before the rains subside from Jun 11, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said.
The six-day rainy weather is in the forecast as the low-pressure trough running across this region will likely regain its strength soon, the agency explained.
On the contrary, the central region will suffer scorching heat from June 6 to 13, despite rains in evening in the north-central part.
Meanwhile, southern locales will see heavy showers and rainstorms, possibly accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and squalls over the coming days.
During Saturday, the common weather pattern across the country is hot sunshine and cloudy in daytime, and showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night-time.
In June, northern localities will likely have increasingly hot weather despite total rainfall possibly being higher than in the same period of previous years.
The southern and Central Highlands regions will see many days of heavy showers and rainstorms over the month, as a southwest monsoon is expected to operate at medium to strong levels.
Tropical depressions or storms may appear in the East Vietnam Sea this month, the center forecast.
