Health authorities in Thai Nguyen Province, northern Vietnam are investigating a suspected poisoning incident that left a young child dead and another hospitalized, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The two kids, identified as four-year-old N.T.P. and five-year-old N.T.K., both hailing from Phu Binh District, were admitted to Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Hospital on Thursday evening with symptoms including abdominal pain and repeated vomiting.
Upon admission to the hospital, both children exhibited critical symptoms such as seizures, pale skin, blue hands and feet, excessive vomiting, and increased salivation.
Despite efforts to save them, N.T.P. passed away, and N.T.K. was transferred to the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital in Hanoi for intensive care the same night.
According to initial reports, the children attended a family gathering for lunch on Thursday, but no signs of illness were reported among other attendees.
Later in the afternoon, the children consumed unidentified substances at home.
By 6:30 pm that day, both began developing symptoms of suspected poisoning, including vomiting and abdominal pain, and were rushed to the hospital.
The reports also revealed that two family dogs that consumed the children’s vomit also died shortly afterward.
The provincial Department of Health then ordered local health agencies to investigate the family’s environment and potential sources of poisoning.
Authorities are working to identify the toxic agent and prevent similar incidents.
Local officials have offered condolences and support to the victims' family.
