Man killed by lightning strike while riding motorbike in northern Vietnam

A man died after being struck by lightning while riding a motorbike along a street in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam on Sunday.

The victim was Luong Van In, a 53-year-old construction contractor from Dong Xuyen Commune, Tien Hai District, Dang Van Phien – the commune’s chairman – confirmed later the same day.

In was riding his motorbike to a construction site during the rainy weather on Sunday morning when he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.

The seat of the motorcycle was also burned following the lightning strike.

After being notified, police officers arrived to examine the scene and carry out an autopsy before handing In’s body to his family.

A total of five people have been fatally struck by lightning in three separate cases across Thai Binh Province in the past two months.

On July 1, a 63-year-old man was killed by a lightning strike as he was working in a field in the rain.

On May 12, three people were riding their motorbikes on a street in Thai Thuy District when they were fatally hit by lightning.
