A waterspout hit Tri An Lake in Dinh Quan District of southern Dong Nai Province on Friday afternoon, damaging many fish-farming rafts.
The local authorities confirmed the incident later on the same day, adding that the waterspout emerged at the lake bed at around 4:45 pm, collecting water from the reservoir to form a columnar vortex.
The vortex was connected to a cumuliform cloud, according to witnesses.

The waterspout then moved to the shore, causing fish-farming rafts to be damaged and overturned.
According to the initial statistics of the local administration, the waterspout resulted in no casualties but completely blew off a raft house, swept away a fishing boat, and turned two rafts and two fishing boats upside down.

Such a weather occurrence as waterspout is rare in Vietnam, according to Nguyen Phuoc Huy - director of the Dong Nai Hydro-meteorological Station.
“In recent years, in the Mekong Delta region, [waterspouts] occasionally occurred in the sea waters off Kien Giang and Ben Tre Provinces,” Huy said.
