Many people in a hamlet in the outskirts of Hanoi had to move their belongings to safe places on Thursday night as the Bui River water levels have risen from the afternoon of the same day, submerging roads and houses, local authorities reported.
Following heavy rains, the river water has poured into Bui Xa Hamlet, Xuan Mai Town, flooding the hamlet, with some areas submerged in 50 centimeters of floodwater, Nguyen Manh Ha, chairman of Hanoi’s Xuan Mai Town administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday morning.
As the floodwater started hitting a number of low-lying houses in Bui Xa and other areas, the town authorities issued a warning of flooding and prepared for evacuation of residents when necessary, Ha said.

It continued to rain heavily on Thursday evening, prompting local authorities to provide locals with the flooding information and safety instructions through the loudspeaker system.
Many families had a sleepless Thursday night moving their properties to safe areas, the chairman said.
“By yesterday evening, local administration had evacuated 14 households,” he added.
Ha told Tuoi Tre that the floodwater has gradually receded since Friday morning, but authorities and locals maintain high alert to deal with possible adverse developments in the coming time.
