A large sinkhole opened on a street in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam on Wednesday morning, putting local residents in serious danger.

The People’s Committee of Quang Phu Commune in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province said on Wednesday that safety barriers had been installed around a massive sinkhole that opened right in the middle of a local street.

Earlier that day, residents discovered the sinkhole forming in the middle of the street – a busy thoroughfare which connects Quang Phu Commune to Nhan Trach Commune in Bo Trach District.

Residents of Quang Phu Commune in Dong Hoi said that this sinkhole emerged after a two-day torrential downpour.

The sinkhole is roughly three meters long, 2.5 meters wide, and four meters deep.

The bottom of the sinkhole is filled with rubble from the street.

As the sinkhole is located on a hillside near the coast, residents fear more could appear in the near future.

Local authorities reported that upon receiving the news, they immediately warned the public of the danger and barricaded the route.

The Dong Hoi City People's Committee also has plans to review and resolve the issue.
