Two died and two others were injured when a seven-seater car plunged into Xuan Huong Lake in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, on Thursday night.

The two people in the back seat - Nguyen Viet Thang, 50, and Nguyen Thi Diem, 53 - were able to escape the vehicle before it sank.

Authorities swiftly carried out a rescue mission but were impeded by the rainy weather and the car’s location near the outlet of Xuan Huong Lake.

It was not until about 8:00 pm that the rescue force pulled the car out of the water and removed the victim’s bodies from the vehicle.

The 25-hectare Xuan Huong Lake is an iconic destination in downtown Da Lat.
