A car driver was fined VND11 million (US$433.3) and had his driver’s license suspended for three months for parking the vehicle for a family meal on an expressway in south-central Vietnam this week.

He parked in an emergency stopping area on the Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet Expressway in Binh Thuan Province, where his family of seven had a meal on Friday evening.

A team from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security spotted seven people sitting behind the car on the expressway, having the meal.

The driver, 34-year-old H.T.P., a resident of neighboring Ninh Thuan Province, explained that they had stopped on the expressway because they were hungry.

The traffic police team emphasized that their actions were extremely dangerous, as limited night-time visibility on the road posed a significant risk to other drivers.
