Temperatures in northern and north-central Vietnam are forecast to drop starting Sunday night as an enhanced cold front begins affecting the regions.
The cold snap was forecast to start influencing the weather of mountainous areas in northern Vietnam on Sunday before expanding its effect to the Red River Delta and north-central provinces, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported.
Winds of 20km per hour will be recorded on the mainland, while coastal areas will see an average wind speed of 20-40km an hour.
Temperatures in northern and north-central localities will begin dropping on Sunday night.
The average lows will be 17-20 degrees Celsius in the Red River Delta and north-central provinces, and 14-17 degrees Celsius in mountainous localities.
Hanoi is expected to record the lowest mercury of between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius.
Heavy rains in the localities from north-central Quang Binh Province to central Quang Ngai Province will linger until the end of Sunday before decreasing in intensity.
A brief report by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control showed that torrential rains triggered by Storm Son Ca over the past few days killed three people in central Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province.
More than 23,500 houses in Da Nang City, Quang Tri Province, and Thua Thien-Hue Province were submerged.
