Police in Gia Lai Province’s Pleiku City, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, are handling a traffic accident caused by a female police officer who admitted her driving under the influence of alcohol when asked by eyewitnesses.
The accident was caused by Major T.T.L. at 6:00 pm on Friday, when a five-seater car driven by L. collided with another car and a motorbike at a three-way junction in Pleiku, local police reported.
L. is managed by the police of Dak Doa District, which is adjacent to Pleiku.
The district police on Saturday confirmed they had been notified of the incident, which was shown in a video clip made and posted on social media by witnesses at the scene.
According to initial information, L.’s car first hit the motorcycle and she then reversed the vehicle before colliding with the other car and stopping.
As seen in the clip, L., in a police uniform, showed signs of being drunk and vomited after causing the accident.
She was also found dropping her head to the steering wheel when being approached by a traffic police officer at the scene.
When a local asked her if she had been drunk, L. answered yes.
The accident caused no casualties but resulted in damage to the three vehicles, according to Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper.
The Dak Doa police said they would handle L.’s violations after receiving a detailed investigation report from their colleagues in Pleiku.
