Police announced on Sunday they had initiated legal proceedings against 35 people involved in a fatal shooting on Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam.
The 35 people have already been arrested, according to Colonel Le Van Quy, deputy director of the department of public security of Kien Giang.
Among them, Vo Van Luong, Bui Minh Trung, Nguyen Van Thai, and Bui Duc Ngoc were determined as the masterminds.
Police coordinated with border guard officers to patrol all streets, ports, ferry stations, and the airport on Phu Quoc Island to search for the suspects, as well as encouraging the culprits to voluntarily surrender.
The shooting took place in Cua Duong Commune at around 11:30 am on Thursday, according to preliminary information.
The incident arose from a land dispute between two groups led by Luong and Khuc Van Doai.
Luong and 50 other people traveled in different vans and buses, each having from seven to 16 seats, to a venue owned by Doai that day to address their dispute.
Doan Thien Long, a member of Luong’s group, used guns to chase and shoot Doai and his people.
Consequently, two people were killed after being shot in the head and chest, while four others were injured.
Aside from arresting the 35 suspects, police officers searched the houses of relevant individuals and confiscated two guns, 19 bullets, one fake seal, and a 16-seater automobile.
