A woman from Hanoi has been arrested on suspicion of killing her six-year-old son after hitting his head with a metal ladle.
The People’s Procuracy in Quoc Oai District, Hanoi confirmed on Saturday that competent authorities had apprehended Nguyen Thanh Thi, 37, on murder charges.
At around 9:30 pm on Friday, the district police unit received a report from Quoc Oai District General Hospital regarding the death of six-year-old Nguyen Manh K. – Thi’s son.
As the report stated that the boy suffered multiple injuries on his body and face, officers launched an investigation into his death.
Preliminary information showed that Thi and Nguyen Van M., 35, got married in 2011 and have two children, K. and 10-year-old Nguyen Manh Q..
The couple got divorced in September 2019 due to their conflicts, with both children living with their father.
After Thi married another man in 2020, she took K. home to live with her and her new husband.
The began beating her son with objects such as bamboo sticks, clothes hangers, plastic pipes, and plastic chairs around September this year when the boy did not listen to her and refused to study.
In early December, Thi was infuriated after K. often peed in his pants and on the bed, so she used a metal ladle to hit the boy twice on his head.
At around 6:00 on Friday, Thi noticed that K. showed signs of weakness, and his whole body was pale.
The woman then took the boy to Quoc Oai District General Hospital for emergency treatment.
However, doctors confirmed that K. was dead on arrival.
