-- Local authorities and military officers were still working to save a 10-year-old boy trapped inside a 35-meter-deep hollow concrete pile in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap as of Tuesday morning.

-- Unseasonal rains are expected to dampen southern Vietnam, while cold weather accompanied by showers will continue in northern provinces on Tuesday, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported.

-- Traffic jams occurred at the entrances of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on Monday afternoon as people traveled back to the two cities following the holiday weekend marking the 2023 New Year.

-- A total of 83 traffic accidents happened across Vietnam during the holiday weekend marking the New Year from December 31 to January 2, killing 50 people and injuring 51 others.

-- Police in southern Binh Phuoc Province confirmed on Monday evening they had arrested a suspect who allegedly stabbed to death a 38-year-old man at a local grocery store earlier the same day.

-- Medium to heavy rains accompanied by strong gusts and lightning are forecast to lash the localities from north-central Quang Binh Province to south-central Khanh Hoa Province from January 5 to 7.
