Authorities in Hoi An, known for its stunning architecture and vibrant culture, is set to transform Tran Phu Street, considered among 'the most beautiful streets in the world,' into a beggar- and street vendor-free area.
The city, located in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, plans to implement this initiative along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street as well, as part of a broader effort to develop model civilized streets.
Nguyen The Hung, vice-president of the Hoi An People's Committee, recently announced the pilot plan for a civilized commercial street on these two main thoroughfares.
This effort is mean to engage residents and business owners in a more refined urban environment.
The initiative will be tailored to complement Hoi An's unique character, focusing on creating a safe, friendly shopping and sightseeing experience for tourists.
Tran Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Streets will become the first pedestrian areas in Hoi An to eliminate plastic bags and waste.
Business establishments there will be renovated and displayed according to new regulations.

Store owners will be expected to maintain courteous behavior, display clear pricing for their goods, and refrain from soliciting customers.
Local authorities will take strict measures to address issues such as begging, street vending, and noise pollution along these streets.
The pilot program for these model pedestrian streets is set to launch in 2024, with plans for expansion throughout Hoi An Ancient Town, situated in the city's Minh Anh Ward, and surrounding areas by 2025.
Currently, Tran Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Streets host 236 businesses, representing four percent of all business establishments in Hoi An.
These streets are vital to the old quarter's economy, drawing numerous tourists daily.
Tran Phu Street was recently recognized by Architectural Digest as one of the 71 most beautiful streets in the world, placing 45th on the list.
