Netizens have criticized a public bus driver who was filmed texting while driving a bus in Dak Lak Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region.
Nguyen Thanh Duc, director of Quyet Thang Cooperative, said on Tuesday afternoon that the firm is verifying the incident and pledges to take strict disciplinary action against the driver in question.
The video, which was posted to social media, showed the driver steering the bus with his forearms while using his hands to text.
He was traveling on National Highway 26 from Dak Lak’s Buon Ma Thuot City to Krong Pak District.
There were dozens of passengers on board at the time.
It is about 41 kilometers from the center of Buon Ma Thuot to the Quyet Thang bus station in Krong Pak.
Quyet Thang has not released the identity of the bus driver as the verification process is underway.
Duc, who was on a business trip in south-central Khanh Hoa Province at the time of the incident, affirmed that his cooperative prohibits drivers from using mobile phones while driving and condemned the actions of the driver in the video.
“He must be severely punished, which will be a deterrent to others,” Duc said.
