Police in Nghe An Province in north-central Vietnam completed handover procedures to return VND190 million (US$8,110) worth of cash collected by a bus conductor to the owner of the money on Friday.
The owner was identified as Le Van Mao, a 59-year-old resident of Dien Yen Commune in Dien Chau District in the north-central province.
While he was driving his car on an overpass of National Highway 48 in Dien Yen Commune at 7:35 am on the same day, a bag containing cash fell to the ground from his car.
He said that he forgot to place the bag on the rear bonnet of the car, making it easy to fall.
After seeing the bag fall down from the car, Truong Van Ky, 27, a conductor of a bus plying the route between Vinh City and Quy Hop District in the province, urged the driver of the bus to stop.
“I got off the bus and collected the bag to check it. I saw a lot of banknotes of various denominations, but I did not count them,” Ky recounted.
“We tried in vain to follow the car, from which the bag fell, to return the money,” Ky added.
As such, he reported this case to the police in Dien Yen Commune.
The police quickly found out the owner of the car and returned the cash to him.
Mao said that he was driving to a bank to deposit the money.
After putting the bag of money on the rear bonnet of the car, he came back to his house to take the car key, thereby forgetting the bag, he explained.
“I discovered my cash-filled bag had fallen after I drove about two kilometers from my house.
“I was really nervous, but luckily, the driver and conductor of the bus picked it up and gave it back to me,” Mao shared.
