A train derailed shortly after leaving Hue Station in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam on Thursday.

The incident occurred immediately after passengers boarded the train at the station en route to neighboring Da Nang City.

At about 11:10 am, the train suddenly halted and the fourth and fifth carriages began leaning heavily to the side, said Huu Nhan, a student at Da Nang University who was on the train during the incident.

Several busy streets near the incident became congested as a result, including Dien Bien Phu Street.

Local railway authorities sent two 52-seater vehicles to the scene to take passengers to Hue Station.

They also launched an investigation into the incident.

Leaders from Thua Thien-Hue visited the scene to help manage the situation.
