-- Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on Saturday sent messages of condolences to their Indian counterparts over a deadly train crash which killed at least 280 people and injured more than 900 others in India’s Odisha state a day earlier.

-- A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Deputy Minister Hoang Xuan Chien is attending the 20th Shangri-La Dialogue that officially opened in Singapore on Saturday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- Two 11-year-old children drowned while bathing in a stream on Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam on Saturday.

-- The Thu Thiem 4 bridge project connecting Thu Duc City and District 7 in Ho Chi Minh City needs an estimated investment of VND5.3 trillion (US$225.7 million). It is among the 11 key projects that the municipal Department of Transport will submit to the municipal People’s Council for consideration and approval at a meeting in July.

-- A man broke the windshield of an ambulance and threatened the vehicle driver in front of the Tra Vinh General Hospital in the namesake southern province after the ambulance driver blared the siren to demand that the man give way to it, local police said on Saturday.

-- Police in southern Dong Nai Province and Hanoi have cooperated to smash a ring transporting 17,000 pills of synthetic drugs from abroad to the Vietnamese capital city by air and then Dong Nai for consumption and caught a suspect red-handed receiving 10,000 pills of synthetic drugs in the province.

-- Seven people, including two children, suffered severe burns after a young man poured gasoline over his body and a group of people and set them on fire at a boarding house in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province on Saturday due to romantic jealousy.

-- The 2023 Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Beach Festival opened in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam on Saturday night. The festival, which takes place until Tuesday, features some 70 cultural and artistic activities.
