Ho Chi Minh City and its neighboring Binh Duong Province will join hands to study the development of an urban space along the Saigon River, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai said at a meeting in Binh Duong on Thursday.
Ho Chi Minh City supports and will assign the relevant agencies to work with those in Binh Duong to realize proposals to enhance traffic connectivity between the two localities, especially those for urban development along the Saigon River.
The two localities will jointly exploit the advantages of riverside areas and quickly review the status quo of these areas.
They will later draw up and publicize specific development plans and carry out the plans consistently.
Chairpersons of southeastern provinces will also meet late this month to discuss the planning of areas along the Saigon River and then weigh the development of an urban space there.
Regarding inter-provincial road projects, such as National Highway 13, Mai said Binh Duong can develop the road section in its precinct first.
Ho Chi Minh City will not hinder its neighbor’s plans, the municipal chairman added.
“The expansion of the National Highway 13 section in Binh Duong is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
“Ho Chi Minh City has included a project to expand the section in its precinct in its investment plan and will execute the project in the coming time,” Mai informed.
At the meeting, representatives of Thu Duc City, under Ho Chi Minh City, and Di An City, Binh Duong Province also mentioned the situation in the border area between the two cities, saying that they reached a consensus to frequently exchange information for mutual development and security maintenance.
Security and social and traffic order in the area remain complicated with many hidden criminals, according to Nguyen Huu Hiep, secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee.
“If we join hands in traffic infrastructure development, the economy and locals’ lives will improve and criminals will definitely reduce.
“I hope leaders of the two localities will regularly meet each other to remove obstacles.
“If a draft resolution on special policies for Ho Chi Minh City is approved, the two localities should allocate more capital for traffic infrastructure development and social welfare in the border area in a bid to reduce and prevent criminals,” Hiep proposed.
