A medical campus, which includes medical schools, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities, has been developing in suburban Binh Chanh District of Ho Chi Minh City over the past decade, going in line with international standards.

The Tan Kien medical campus, covering 73 hectares in Binh Chanh District’s Tan Kien Commune, is inspired by the advanced healthcare systems of high-income countries like the U.S., the UK, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

Planned and developed since 2015, it is the first medical campus in Vietnam, following global standards on healthcare in developed nations.

After over a decade of construction, phase 1, covering more than 33 hectares, is operational, with specialized hospitals, modern centers, and universities.

Key facilities include the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital, both equipped with spacious, clean, and modern infrastructure.

The two hospitals features large parking areas, shaded walkways for patients, air-conditioned spaces, and convenient registration and canteen areas.

Many patients have praised the inpatient care, with some saying these two hospitals’ treatment area resembles a hotel in terms of comfort and design.

“Instead of traveling all the way to downtown Ho Chi Minh City, my child receives treatment here in a modern, comfortable room that feels like a hotel,” commented H.L., a 25-year-old from the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, who brought her child for leukemia treatment at the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital.

“Plus, it’s much more convenient coming from Bac Lieu without the need for a longer bus ride.”

Dr. Phu Chi Dung, director of the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, noted that since moving to the new facility, patient care quality has improved significantly, with modern infrastructure, enhanced treatment processes, and a better overall patient experience.

The hospital’s patient rooms are designed to international standards, reducing infection risks and creating a safer, more comfortable environment for treatment.

In addition to the two hospitals, the construction of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Campus 2, began in 2021 and is expected to open later this year.

Once completed, the Tan Kien medical campus will include a range of healthcare facilities, including the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Forensic Center, 115 Emergency Center, and Traumatology Hospital.

The campus will help ease the burden on major hospitals in downtown Ho Chi Minh City and will serve the healthcare needs of people from the Mekong Delta in the future.
