The administration of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province in southern Vietnam on Sunday morning started work on the Phuoc An Bridge project, whose total investment is roughly VND4.9 trillion (US$208.28 million).
The 4.4km-long bridge will span Thi Vai River and link the province’s Phu My Town with neighboring Dong Nai Province’s Nhon Trach District.
It is slated for completion in December 2027.
The bridge, once put into service, will shorten the distance needed to transport goods from Mekong Delta provinces in southern Vietnam to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai International Port in Ba Ria - Vung Tau by nearly 30 kilometers.
Specifically, vehicles departing from industrial parks and the port in the province can opt to travel across the Phuoc An Bridge, then the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway, and the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway to arrive in the Mekong Delta region.

The bridge is anticipated to fulfill the growth potential of the existing Cai Mep - Thi Vai deepwater port and the projected Cai Mep Ha logistic service center.
Nguyen Van Tho, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, underlined the importance of the bridge project, demanding all contractors make joint efforts to implement it as planned.
He also asked relevant agencies to ramp up efforts to supervise the execution of the project and take measures to prevent wastefulness.
