Police in Lam Dong Province, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands, on Wednesday afternoon imposed an administrative fine of VND2.5 million (US$106) on a local woman for humiliating a sanitation worker and her family.
T.T.N., 33, a resident of Loc Phat Ward in Lam Dong's Bao Loc City, was also ordered to formally apologize to N.T.H., a garbage collector employed by Bao Loc Urban Projects Joint Stock Company.
N.’s punishments came after a video went viral on social media which showed her hurling rude and offensive insults at H. while she was collecting household waste near N.’s home on June 18.
N. also disrespected H.'s profession and insulted her husband and daughter.
H. remained silent throughout the video.
According to Bao Loc Urban Projects Joint Stock Company, the ridicule started when H. was unable to lift a trash can as per N.'s request due to its large size.
Police officers on Wednesday afternoon said that N. had received a VND2.5-million fine for her behavior, and more severe penalties may be imposed if she relapses.
