Work started on a project, costing an estimated US$465,000, to renovate 12 deteriorating and narrow alleys in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.
The project is meant to advance traffic flow, facilitate firefighting and prevention operations, and reduce flooding in the downtown area.
The People’s Committee of District 3 held a groundbreaking ceremony for the alley upgrading project on Wednesday morning.
The total investment will reach some VND11 billion ($465,000).
These alleys are located in Wards 1, 2, 5, 13, and 14, and near Vo Thi Sau Street.
The renovation project will help improve residents’ quality of life, contributing to the district’s socio-economic development, officials said.
Doan Thi Ngoc Linh, a resident of Alley 16 on Nguyen Thien Thuan Street in Ward 2, said that the alleyway has deteriorated over the past few years.
She expects it to be upgraded to smooth traffic and minimize traffic accidents.
“I hope the work on the renovation project will be completed on schedule in order not to affect households in the alleyway,” Linh said.
The District 3 administration pledged to speed up work on the project and closely monitor construction.
The district will widen more alleys in the coming years, according to the District 3 management board of project investment and construction.
