Vietnam’s law-making National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes in Hanoi on Thursday to discuss ongoing and future collaborations between both nations.
Man highlighted the enduring strength of Vietnam-Cuba political and diplomatic ties.
He also underscored the significance of Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Cuba last September, which marked a milestone in elevating bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in economics, trade, and investment.
Following the visit, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade sent experts to Cuba to support the Caribbean country in solar energy development, ensuring a more stable electricity supply.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also assisted Cuba in agricultural production, while other state agencies, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Ministry of Health, are deepening collaboration in their respective areas of expertise.
The top legislator expressed hope for increased high-level visits and exchanges in 2025 to further strengthen the traditional friendship and unique partnership between the two countries.
Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes conveyed Cuba’s gratitude for Vietnam’s long standing support, particularly in food security.
He added that with Vietnam’s assistance, Cuba is adopting new agricultural cooperation models, including advancements in rice farming.
Both sides emphasized the success of the inaugural session of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee held last year and pledged to achieve meaningful outcomes at the second session, scheduled to take place in Vietnam in 2025.
On the same day, Man hosted a reception for Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei in Hanoi.
The top Vietnamese official extended a formal invitation to Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, to visit Vietnam and co-chair the inaugural session of the cooperation committee between the Vietnamese legislature and the Chinese National People’s Congress.
