-- Vietnam and Indonesia agreed to work together to bring their two-way trade to over US$15 billion in the years ahead, according to the outcomes of talks held on Friday between Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Indonesia’s Speaker of the People’s Representative Council Puan Maharani during the top Vietnamese legislator’s on-going official visit to Indonesia.

-- Hoa Phat Container Production JSC, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s leading steelmaker Hoa Phat Group, launched its first batch of 100 20-foot shipping containers in the market on Friday, after it began commercial operations two years ago.


-- A low-pressure area active in northeastern Vietnam is forecast to strengthen further and bring more downpours, flash floods, landslides, and thunderstorms to the region in the next few days, said a national weather center official on Friday afternoon.

-- Police in Lao Cai Province have pressed charges against Le Ngoc Duong, chairman of the Muong Khuong District administration, for his alleged involvement in illegal apatite ore mining in this northern mountainous province, the provincial police department announced on Friday.

-- Doctors at the Children’s Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City have saved the life of a five-year-old girl with critical hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) by using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), making her the first HFMD case in the country to be treated by this technique, a hospital representative confirmed on Friday night.

-- Six former and incumbent officials of Thu Sy Commune, Tien Lu District, Hung Yen Province have been detained for allegedly abusing their power while on duty during the 2013-14 period, the provincial police department said on Friday.


-- Some 40 cruise ships, yachts, floating restaurants, canoes operated by tourism businesses on the Saigon River are scheduled to join a parade during the ongoing Ho Chi Minh City River Festival, taking place from Friday to Sunday this week in the city.


-- The Vietnam Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee on Friday night imposed a fine on Hai Phong Football Club for fan misconduct, including the lighting of flares at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi this Wednesday.

-- The Portuguese state weather agency on Friday put the capital Lisbon on high weather alert for the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius (105.8 Fahrenheit) on the last day of Pope Francis' visit, Reuters reported.

-- Denmark is tightening border controls to boost domestic security and prevent unwanted individuals from entering the country after recent Koran burnings, the government said, following a similar decision by Sweden this week, according to Reuters.
