The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has demonstrated its commitments to international cooperation and public security by joining forces with U.S. law enforcement agencies to look for and apprehend two U.S. people over murder allegations in June this year, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City said on Thursday.
The two suspects were Polie Phan and Jaiden Nguyen, detained on June 20 and 22, respectively.
Vietnamese police arrested Phan while he was hiding in Ho Chi Minh City and found Nguyen in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.
They had been wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for being allegedly involved in a murder case in Houston City of Texas in January this year.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has arrested four extremely dangerous U.S. suspects wanted by Interpol over the past 11 months, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City said.
These efforts proved the increasingly effective cooperation among law enforcement agencies of the two countries.
Following such achievements, representatives of the U.S. Marshals Service visited Vietnam for the first time from July 11 to 16 to expand the cooperation in law enforcement.
U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns has also expressed her gratitude to Vietnamese law enforcement agencies for their investigation efforts and cooperation, and emphasized the importance of the bilateral collaboration in ensuring security in both countries.
“I hope the transport of these suspects [to the U.S.] will partly console the families of the victims,” Burns said.
The commitments of Vietnam and the U.S. to jointly handle such cases will create a premise for activities in the future to cement their shared objective of protecting justice and ensuring social safety, she added.
