-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on Monday met with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is in Vietnam for a state visit through Tuesday.

-- Metro line No. 1 of Ho Chi Minh City will undergo a test run on the entire route for the first time on August 31. It has successfully embarked on three test runs, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board.

-- The administration of Ho Chi Minh City has ordered the implementation of a pilot project to improve traffic on and revitalize some streets in the downtown area, with the participation of Japanese experts.

-- Three men were hospitalized due to suspected alcohol poisoning in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, the provincial general hospital said on Monday.

-- Up to 391 out of the 424 parks in Ho Chi Minh City have no parking lots as they are mainly located inside residential areas, have a small area, or have no space for parking services, according to a report the municipal Department of Construction sent to the People’s Committee.

-- Susan Burns, U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, on Monday visited the production line of mooncakes at ABC Bakery, a home-grown bakery chain.

-- Ho Chi Minh City on Monday launched a contest called ‘Net Zero Challenge’ to seek technological solutions for dealing with climate change. The organizer will receive applications for the contest until October 15.

-- Vietnam revised up the retail prices of most fuel products by VND320-610 (US$0.01-0.02) per liter or kilogram on Monday afternoon, except for diesel oil which saw its price falling by VND70 ($0.003) per liter, according to an announcement jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance the same day.
