A 55-year-old man was killed after being hit by an uprooted tree while he was taking shelter under the tree during a heavy rain on Tuesday evening in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City.
The fatal incident occurred at around 7:00 pm in Phuoc Binh Ward when it was raining heavily with strong winds.
The identity of the deceased man remains unknown.
A local resident’s motorcycle parked by the roadside was also damaged by the uprooted tree.
Local forces then cordoned off and inspected the scene to serve an investigation into the fatal incident.
Representatives of Hoang Lam Company Limited, which is responsible for tree maintenance services in the area, also came to the scene to jointly cope with the aftermath of the incident.
According to Vietnam's southern weather center, heavy rains and thunderstorms hit various parts of Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday afternoon, with average rainfall of 2-20mm, with strong wind gusts.
