Connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport in neighboring Dong Nai Province is extremely important as around 70,000 passengers are projected to travel between the city and the airport per day, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
After the airport is completed, it will receive 80 percent of Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport's international passengers, the ACV, which is the investor, reported during an inspection by Nguyen Trong Nghia, head of the Central Commission on Information and Education, at the Long Thanh International Airport project and the Loc An-Binh Son resettlement area on Wednesday.
As a result, it is important to ensure convenience in traveling between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport, Nghia said.
An ACV representative said the project’s work packages are being executed as scheduled and the airport is set to be put into operation by the end of 2026.
Specifically, package 4.6, which includes the construction of runways, taxiways, and aprons, will be finished by April 30, 2025, three months earlier than planned.
Package 5.10 to construct the passenger terminal is expected to be put into service by August 30, 2026.
The ACV is investing in two roads connected to the airport, with road T1 linking with National Highway 51 and road T2 leading to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
Work on the roads was planned to complete by October 2025, before the completion of the airport project.
The ACV proposed that Nghia work with authorities in Ho Chi Minh City, asking the city to accelerate the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.

At the meeting with Nghia, Nguyen Hong Linh, secretary of the Dong Nai Party Committee, said Long Thanh International Airport is a vital project.
The central government has ordered the development of roads connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport as well as adjacent residential areas.
Dong Nai has been developing services surrounding the airport to serve passengers and is attracting investment in the airport urban area planning.
Nghia said that Vietnam and other countries are looking forward to the completion of the airport which is a key national project that can generate jobs for local laborers and improve the international standing of Vietnam.
The first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project is expected to cost VND110 trillion (US$4.3 billion).
The entire airport project is designed to span 5,000 hectares and carry a VND336.63 trillion ($13.3 billion) price tag.
Once finished, the airport will be the largest in the nation with an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million metric tons of cargo.
