The TEDI SOUTH - CCTDI consultant consortium has proposed widening the Saigon Railway Station in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City to 6.68 hectares from the current six hectares in an attempt to turn it into a complex comprised of a 2.3-hectare square, bus station, taxi stand, and parking lot.
The consultant consortium assessed the station as one of the most important railway stations in Vietnam, referring to it as a transit hub.
As per the proposal, the station’s carriage repair and maintenance areas would be relocated to Binh Trieu and Tan Kien Stations in Ho Chi Minh City’s suburban areas.
TEDI SOUTH – CCTDI also suggested re-planning three other stations in the southern metropolis.
In particular, the Binh Trieu Station in Thu Duc City will receive passenger trains of the North-South express railway, trains heading toward Cambodia, long-haul trains, and trains to neighboring Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Tay Ninh Provinces.
The station will have an area of some 41 hectares.
Meanwhile, the Tan Kien Station in Binh Chanh District will span some 67.2 hectares.
The technical passenger and cargo station will accommodate train repair and maintenance facilities.
The Thu Thiem Station in Thu Duc City will be a key station serving the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway, which was planned to pass through Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring Dong Nai Province.
The station will house a square, a station for the city’s second metro line, a bus stop, a taxi stand, and parking space.
The station is expected to cover some 17.2 hectares.
