Ho Chi Minh City expects to put the Long Kieng Bridge project in its outlying district of Nha Be into use from Wednesday next week, 22 years after the project was formulated.
The municipal People’s Committee approved the project in 2001.
The 318-meter-long bridge project with two approaching roads measuring 661 meters in length required an estimated investment of VND589 billion (US$24.3 million), sourced from the city’s budget.
Its investor is the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City.
Workers complete auxiliary items, such as manhole covers, sidewalks, and median strips. The main items of the bridge have been completed. |
By 2007, just some households had handed over their land lots to make room for the project.
Work on the project did not start until August 2018. It was scheduled for completion at the end of November 2019.
However, site clearance bottlenecks slowed down the progress.
Until September last year, the People’s Committee of Nha Be District had not handed over the entire cleared site for the project.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee approved the new Long Kieng Bridge project in 2001. The 318-meter-long bridge project with two approaching roads measuring 661 meters in length required an estimated investment of VND589 billion. |
The new bridge will help revitalize the area and facilitate travel. Many local residents are excited as they will no longer have to pass over the deteriorated Long Kieng Bridge. |
In 2018, the Long Kieng Bridge collapsed when a truck carrying rocks was running on it, sending the truck and many motorbikes down to the river. It took local authorities 10 days to deal with the incident. |
The opening of the new Long Kieng Bridge has been a dream of residents during the past 22 years. |
A road leading to the bridge in Nhon Duc Commune, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City has been expanded. |
Contractors complete technical items of the bridge and approach roads. |
Workers plant trees under the bridge to prevent littering. In April 2023, vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong required completing the bridge on June 30 and the approach roads on July 30 at the latest. Other items should be completed later to put the project into service by the National Day (September 2) holiday. |
