-- Congratulatory messages for Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) continued to pour in from other nations, including South Korea, Brunei, Australia, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Venezuela, as well as from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres over the weekend.

-- A high-ranking delegation of Vietnam led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left Hanoi on Monday morning for Jakarta, Indonesia, where they will attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings from Tuesday to Thursday at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

-- Many roads leading to Hanoi and the Rach Mieu Bridge, which lies along a major route connecting provinces in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, were once again congested as thousands of people rushed back to the two metropolises on Sunday afternoon, one day ahead of the end of their long holiday weekend to celebrate National Day (September 2).

-- A couple trying to cross the railway on a motorbike when the automatic barrier was already closed to warn of an oncoming train were hit by the train and died on the spot in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam on Sunday afternoon.

-- Police officers dealt with 8,920 instances of traffic safety violations nationwide and issued fines amounting to VND19.1 billion (US$793,000) in the first three days of the ongoing four-day holiday, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

-- Vietnam Airlines has adjusted its schedule for flights between Vietnam and Taiwan on Sunday and Monday due to the impact of Typhoon Haikui.

-- A 10-year-old boy was found dead in a construction pond in Binh Phuoc Province, southern Vietnam on Sunday.

-- A total of 503,154 travelers have visited Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam during the ongoing four-day holiday, generating tourism revenue exceeding VND662 billion ($27.5 million), according to a provincial Department of Tourism report.

-- Vietnam spent $2.06 billion on importing 88,300 completely built-up (CBU) automobiles in the first eight months of this year, down 8.4 percent in value compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

-- Vietnam stunned Australia 3-0 on Sunday to progress onto the semifinals at the 2023 Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Thailand.
