A driver of a long-haul bus heading from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam died of a stroke after he stopped the vehicle safely to protect his passengers in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at 8:00 am after the long-haul bus with six or seven passengers on board left a coach station in the district for La Gi Town in Binh Thuan.
Authorities in the town said on Sunday night that the driver passed away and his body was transported to his house in La Gi Town for funeral rites.
A dashcam video showed that the driver, identified as N.T.B., an employee of Vinh Hoa Travel Company, was driving a long-haul bus to transport passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to La Gi when he suffered a stroke.
However, he struggled to make a stop to keep the passengers safe and avoid a traffic accident.
After the stop, the passengers on board did not know how to give first aid for a stroke, so they called emergency services to take him to a hospital in District 5.
When the video went viral on the Internet, many people praised and thanked him for his efforts.
Meanwhile, several said that first-aid skills for stroke sufferers are very necessary, and residents should be equipped with these skills to save stroke victims in a timely manner.
M.T., a coworker of the driver, said that he was a dedicated driver and truly helpful.
The deceased driver worked for the company for over 20 years.
On August 7, a driver of a long-haul bus owned by Phuong Trang FuTaBuslines Passenger Car Corporation, was transporting passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Soc Trang Province in the Mekong Delta region when he suffered a stroke.
The driver, identified as S.T., tried to stop the long-haul bus, and pulled in to the side of the road to ensure the safety of his passengers.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment, but did not survive.
