A court in Binh Phuoc Province, southern Vietnam on Thursday handed capital punishment to two Vietnamese and one Cambodian for trafficking nearly 32 kilograms of drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam.

In particular, the court gave the death sentence to Nguyen Ngoc Hai, 29, and Dang Ngoc Quy, 24, residing in Binh Phuoc Province, along with Sbov Proeurn, 36, from Cambodia.

Hai also got a life sentence for the illegal possession of drugs and a two-year jail term for the illegal storage of military weapons. In total, he will serve the death sentence.

According to the indictment, on March 26 last year, a Cambodian man nicknamed 'Boss' made a phone call to hire Proeurn to transport drugs from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City at a cost of US$200 per kilogram.

Proeurn later called his friend, Hai, and discussed a transport plan.

They agreed that Proeurn would transport the drugs from Cambodia to the Cambodia-Vietnam border and Hai would be responsible for bringing them from the border to Ho Chi Minh City.

Proeurn would receive $50 for each kilogram of the drugs, while Hai would be entitled to $150 each kilogram.

Hai then hired Quy at a rate of VND15 million ($615) a kilogram to transport the drugs.

From June 24 to July 5, 2022, Proeurn and Hai transported drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam three times. Of these, Hai hired Quy to transport the drugs twice.

At about 9:00 am on June 24 last year, Proeurn rode a motorbike to an area near the Memot District market in TboungKhmum Province, Cambodia to receive two 20-liter plastic cans and a plastic bag containing drugs from an unknown person.

Then, Proeurn transported them to Loc Ninh District in Binh Phuoc Province and hid the drugs there.

Being informed of the site, Hai and Quy went to Loc Ninh to pick up the drugs.

Via phone numbers written on the plastic cans, Hai delivered the drugs to three people in Ho Chi Minh City and received VND120 million ($4,922).

With the same ruse, Proeurn and his accomplices transported three other plastic cans containing drugs to Ho Chi Minh City on July 2, 2022.

On July 5, 2022, Proeurn received three additional plastic cans of drugs from 'Boss' and carried them to the border area.

Hai asked Quy to come to the border area to pick up those drugs and take them to Ho Chi Minh City for delivery.

However, police caught Quy red-handed transporting nearly 31 kilograms of drugs.

Police officers also raided Hai’s residence and seized a roller gun, a colt gun, six bullets, and nearly one kilogram of drugs.
