The People’s Court of Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam on Friday handed a capital punishment to a 32-year-old local man, who had stabbed his ex-lover 23 times to her death.
According to the indictment, Nguyen Thanh Luong, a resident of Kien Giang’s Rach Gia City, developed a romantic relationship with Pham Kim P., a resident of Chau Thanh District in the same province, for about one year.
After P. ended the relationship, Luong visited P. on September 26, 2022 in hope of getting back together.
Prior to the visit, Luong had purchased two knives.
The man waited at P.’s nail spa since 7:00 pm on the day until all customers left and entered the venue and closed the door.
He initiated a conversation, but P. remained adamant about ending the relationship.
Luong then used the newly-bought knives to stab P. multiple times before knifing himself and attempting to cut his own throat to commit suicide but he failed.
P.’s family discovered the incident and rushed both individuals to a hospital for emergency treatment.
The woman could not make it while Luong received medical treatment until September 30, 2022, and upon his release from the hospital, he was apprehended and faced legal proceedings.
Friday’s jury evaluated that the man was no longer eligible for rehabilitation through education and handed him a death sentence.
Earlier, the People’s Procuracy of Kien Giang Province suggested a life sentence for Luong on charges of murder.
