Thousands of residents flocked to the Tri An hydroelectric dam in Vinh Cuu District under Dong Nai Province, located in southern Vietnam, to catch fish on Tuesday after the dam ceased water release, harvesting many big fish weighing over 10 kilograms.
After more than 40 consecutive days of discharging water to regulate reservoirs, Tri An Hydropower Company stopped the water release the same day, attracting throngs of fish catchers.
The foot of the dam was crowded by locals and visitors arriving from neighboring Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province early in the morning.
They equipped themselves with nets and necessary tools in the hope of making some big catches.

Locals said that when the Tri An dam undergoes a water release to regulate water resources in the area, fish flow upstream from the Dong Nai River, and remain in the foot of the dam after the water discharge is halted.
The volume of fish in the dam this year was not as large as that seen in previous years, said many fish catchers.
The Tri An hydroelectric plant started the water release from 3:00 pm on August 29.
This was the second time the dam had discharged water this year.
The first release took place between August 10 and 25.
