The People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi has proposed the cessation of running tournaments around the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake while people are normally sleeping to avoid affecting the lives of local residents.

In recent times, there has been a surge in activities and events around Hoan Kiem Lake, particularly early morning running events starting at 3:00 am.

Several events feature high-volume music performances at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square next to the lake, impacting the lives, well-being, and routines of the residents, particularly the elderly and young children.

The installation and dismantling of these events frequently result in equipment, booth mounting frames, and waste being left in an unsanitary and unsafe manner, without proper consideration for labor safety and traffic safety.

Moreover, the events are often accompanied by stalls promoting unsuitable products, including the sale of low-quality agricultural items, food, and foreign goods.

In response to these issues, the Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee has made several proposals, including suspending early morning running races to prevent disturbances to the lives of local residents.

The committee suggests the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports limit the presence of inappropriate booths in the Hoan Kiem Lake walking area and its surroundings during the organization of events and activities.

Booths, if allowed, should be designed to uphold esthetics and minimize their impact.

It also recommends restricting events that involve high-volume music performances in the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square area.

These measures are expected to preserve the local landscape, environment, and residents’ safety, while ensuring security and fire safety in the Hoan Kiem Lake area.
