A low-pressure system recently developed in the central and southern regions of the East Vietnam Sea and was expected to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said on Tuesday.
As of 1:00 pm on Tuesday, the low-pressure center was located in the northwest region of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
The national weather agency predicted that the system will move slowly northwestward and gradually strengthen into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Due to the low-pressure system and associated trough, the central and southern parts of the East Vietnam Sea, including the archipelago, and the coastal waters from Binh Dinh Province to Ninh Thuan Province will experience showers, thunderstorms, whirlwinds, and wind gusts of approximately 39-61kph.
From Wednesday night through Thursday, the northeastern waters of the East Vietnam Sea may experience northeasterly winds of 29-49kph, with gusts reaching 50-74kph, creating rough sea conditions with waves reaching 2-4m.
All operational vessels in these areas face potential risks from powerful winds and high waves.
The Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center said from Tuesday night to Friday, unseasonal rain showers may occur in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces due to the influence of the equatorial trough and low-pressure system.
On Tuesday evening, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued an urgent directive to the coastal provinces from south-central Binh Dinh to southern Kien Giang, instructing them to prepare for the potential intensification of the low-pressure system into a tropical depression,
As per the directive, local authorities were asked to closely monitor weather updates and alerts regarding the system’s development.
They must notify all vessel owners, captains, and marine operators about the impending storm conditions to give ample time for adjustment and ensure safety.
Local authorities will maintain communication channels to ensure swift emergency response and are prepared to deploy search and rescue teams for potential maritime incidents.
