The construction of Danish toy manufacturer LEGO Group’s factory carrying a price tag of US$1 billion in Binh Duong Province, southern Vietnam is 26 percent complete now, a company representative announced on Wednesday.

Preben Elnef, vice-president of LEGO Group and general manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, said the group and contractors held the roof-sealing ceremony for a prefabricated building and reached a milestone of three million safe working hours at the project on Wednesday.

Vo Hoang Lam, general director of Coteccons Construction JSC, the general contractor of the project, said the company is trying to complete the project without any occupational accidents.

Besides the construction of the factory, LEGO has plans to recruit personnel for its operation.

The group will recruit 100 workers over the rest of this year and 400 in 2024 so that the plant can begin operating in the second half of next year.

The number of laborers working at the plant is expected to reach 4,000 people in the future, according to LEGO.

LEGO Group’s factory in Binh Duong, designed to cover 44 hectares of land, is one of the largest FDI projects in the province and one of the largest Danish-invested projects in Vietnam.

LEGO kicked off the construction of the plant in November last year.

This is LEGO’s sixth factory worldwide and its first carbon-neutral facility.
