Authorities in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam on Thursday morning held a ground-breaking ceremony for a VND1.5 trillion (US$59.1 million) project to upgrade a section of provincial road 25B from Nhon Trach District to the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport project in neighboring Long Thanh District.
The road section is over 9.2 kilometers and passes through Nhon Trach and Long Thanh Districts.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2025 and will be put into operation in 2026.
According to the Dong Nai traffic infrastructure project management board, provincial road 25B is an important route in Nhon Trach.
According to planning for the Long Thanh International Airport project, roads T1 and T2 will connect other key roads in the area to the airport, including National Highway 51, provincial roads 25B and 25C, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, and Beltway No. 3, thus linking the massive airport to Ho Chi Minh City and adjacent localities and easing pressure on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway as well as National Highway 51.
T1 will be 4.28 kilometers long and have six lanes, while T2 is designed to span 3.5 kilometers and have four lanes.
In early January last year, the administration in Nhon Trach commenced three traffic infrastructure projects, consisting of the first phase of road 25C, Ton Duc Thang Street (25B), and the extended Le Hong Phong Street.
The three projects cost a total of over VND2 trillion ($78.7 million).
Once in place, they will connect to Beltway No. 3, a road leading to Phuoc An Port and Long Thanh International Airport.
Long Thanh International Airport, covering 5,000 hectares upon completion, is projected to require an investment of VND336.63 trillion ($13.3 billion).
Once completed, the airport will be Vietnam's largest, capable of handling 100 million passengers and five million metric tons of cargo annually.
