-- State President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse will pay an official visit to Japan from November 27 to 30 at the invitation of the Japanese state, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on Wednesday.

-- Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son proposed three priorities for the APEC cooperation at the 34th APEC Ministerial Meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday.

-- Moderate to heavy rains are forecast to continue lashing the central region on Thursday, with a rain volume of up to 500 millimeters, according to the national weather center. Several central localities such as Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, and Khanh Hoa are facing severe flooding triggered by torrential rains.

-- Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways No. 1 Company, which is in charge of managing and operating the city’s first metro line, has been allowed to increase its charter capital to VND268 billion (US$11 million), well above the VND14 billion ($574,000) granted when the firm was established in 2015.

-- Three were killed and another injured in Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands region after a tree fell on Wednesday. The incident happened when these victims were taking shelter under the tree during a heavy rain.

-- A parent jumped on a school bus to insult and repeatedly beat the driver of the vehicle in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam on Tuesday afternoon. The driver told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday night that he had submitted a denunciation letter against the man to the provincial police.

-- An ambulance with six people on board hit the median strip of a street in Luong Son Town under Bac Binh District in Binh Thuan Province, and continued crashing into a local house on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one dead and five others wounded.

-- Vietnam organized a financial investment promotion conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, with the participation of more than 50 major U.S. firms and investment funds.

-- President Thuong told Vietnamese representative agencies in San Francisco and Houston to boost cooperation between Vietnamese and U.S. localities, and encourage overseas Vietnamese to invest in the homeland, heard a meeting between the top Vietnamese official and some representatives of the Vietnamese community in the U.S. on Tuesday (local time). He is on a visit to San Francisco to attend the APEC Leaders’ Week and bilateral activities at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden.
