Over the past few years, several luxury seaside resorts that once buzzed with excitement between Da Nang and Hoi An City in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam have transformed into eerie, deserted shells of what they once were.

Though dozens of reasons exist for why these resorts have shut down, COVID-19 and severe coastal erosion seem to be amongst the prevalent.

Viewed from above, these once extravagant resorts now resemble ghost towns, filled with buildings and houses battered by winds and rain, with trees and other plants growing unchecked.

Notably, these deserted luxurious properties are situated along the coast, where room prices soared to record highs amidst an influx of international tourists during the tourism boom.

One of these resorts was Tropical Beach Hoi An Resort, which sits in a prime location on Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An City.

Over the past two years, intense waves have eroded the coastline significantly, causing essential infrastructure at the resort to collapse into the sea.

Despite substantial investments in coastal reinforcement, the resort remains abandoned, with hundreds of rooms deteriorating due to weather, insects, and plant overgrowth.

Currently, the site is under the watch of two guards who revealed that the owner is investing in seaside fortification, hopeful to reclaim the land and restart the business.
