A driver, seemingly under the influence of alcohol, crashed his car into a motorbike carrying five people, causing the latter to land on the roof of the car on Thuy Khue Street in Tay Ho District, Hanoi on Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 2:00 pm when the car, whose driver’s identity remains unknown, was running from Thuy Khe Street to Lac Long Quan Street.

It suddenly accelerated, encroached on another lane, and hit the motorbike ridden by D.V.A., 38, who was carrying his wife and three children in the opposite direction.

The collision caused the motorbike and the five people to land on the roof of the car before falling to the ground. All five went unconscious.

The hood of the car was broken, while the motorbike was deformed. The victims’ belongings were scattered on the street.

After causing the crash, the car driver escaped from the scene but Tay Ho police officers and local residents managed to stop him.

The male driver held his ground inside the car for around 30 minutes. After police required him to get out of the car, he exited the vehicle.

However, he intended to flee again.

Police officers later took him to their station, while the five victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The case is undergoing further investigation.
