The People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam on Tuesday directed police officers and forest rangers to map out a plan to gun down a monkey in Que Son District as the primate had attacked several locals.
Under the directive, forest rangers in Que Son are allowed to shoot the ape if they fail to capture the wild animal by tranquilizing it.
The provincial administration also told the provincial military command to cooperate with the district and rangers to hunt down the dangerous animal.
Since early December, a monkey has appeared and rampaged through Que My Commune in Que Son District, posing a threat to public safety.
Three individuals sustained severe injuries after being bitten by the ape, while the wild animal also attacked and fatally bit four domestic dogs.
The monkey punctured Phan Nguyen Nhi’s femoral artery, leading to an emergency situation that required him to be urgently transported to Da Nang Hospital for treatment.
Another victim was identified as Dang Thi Ba, who suffered a large bite that required 15 stitches for treatment.
Police and forest rangers in the district have tried in vain to trap the monkey, resulting in them resorting to a lethal method.
According to an official from Que Son District, the recent arrival of macaques, along with their subsequent attacks, has left the local residents shocked and frightened. Macaques were previously unknown in the area, making their sudden presence an unsettling development for the community.
