Authorities will review and make a list of parking service providers surrounding parks in Ho Chi Minh City as a temporary solution to coping with a shortage of parking space.
The southern metropolis is home to 424 public parks, with up to 391 of them having no parking lots, Nguyen Thi Nhi, an official at the municipal Department of Construction, told a press briefing on Thursday.
The department had reported the parking lot shortfall to the municipal administration, proposing that the latter allow local authorities to survey the demand for parking services among park-goers to adopt appropriate solutions.
If it is unfeasible for some parks to set up parking spaces, the park management units would team up with relevant agencies to survey nearby parking services and install instruction boards to help park-goers access those services, she said.
For a long-term solution, the city’s Department of Planning and Architecture was tasked with mapping out a zoning plan for developing parking spaces at public parks.
Findings from Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper showed that numerous motorcycles were found to be parked by the roadside near some major parks such as Hoang Van Thu Park in Tan Binh District, Gia Dinh Park in Tan Binh District, Bach Dang Wharf Park and 30/4 (April 30) Park in District 1.
Some park-goers who parked their vehicles by the roadside explained that the parks have no parking lots.
Meanwhile, others said the parking space in the park was full at the time or private parking lots were far away from the park.
