Police arrested a Vietnamese national attempting to enter Vietnam through a northern border gate after having identified her as a suspect in the organization of illegal narcotics use in 2020, a local official said on Monday.

According to Colonel Vo Van Duong, deputy director of the Quang Ngai Province police department in central Vietnam, his agency detained and transported Dinh Thi Kieu Loan, a 27-year-old resident of the province's Son Ha District from the Ha Khau International Border Gate in northern Lao Cai Province to Quang Ngai.

On May 29, 2020, investigators in Quang Ngai caught a group of young people using narcotics at a guest house on Ha Huy Tap Street.

Police later determined that Loan had organized the illegal use of such narcotics. As such, the provincial police launched legal proceedings against her in July 2023.

Loan then fled the province, prompting police officers to issue a warrant for her arrest in September.

Police later learned that she had run away to Myanmar.

Due to ongoing fighting in Myanmar, the Vietnamese government recently repatriated Vietnamese citizens from the country. Loan was amongst these citizens.

She was arrested upon returning to Vietnam.
