Hanoi and the northeastern part of Vietnam will possibly experience persistent drizzles, morning fog, and high humidity over the next 10 days, raising concerns about damp and humid conditions in homes and public spaces.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, light rain and drizzle will become more frequent, especially in northeastern provinces, where overnight and early morning drizzle and fog are expected to linger, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Mountainous areas may continue to see sub-zero temperatures, with a risk of frost and ice formation.

Between February 12 and 20, the northeastern part is expected to see widespread drizzle, light rain, and fog in the mornings.

In contrast, northwestern provinces will probably experience milder conditions, with morning fog followed by sunshine in the afternoons.

In north-central provinces, light rain and fog could persist in the early mornings, but from February 13 onward, the cold will be limited to nighttime and early morning hours.

For Hanoi, drizzle and fog will dominate from February 12 to 20, with temperatures set to drop to 15-16 degrees Celsius.

The national weather agency warned that high humidity, coupled with prolonged drizzle and fog, may trigger damp conditions indoors -- a common occurrence in Hanoi and northeastern provinces during late winter and early spring.

Nguyen Van Huong, head of the weather forecasting department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that humid conditions typically appear from late February to April when cold air masses shift from a north-south trajectory to an eastward direction, bringing moist easterly winds to northern Vietnam.

However, he added that humidity levels in 2025 would not be so severe as in 2024, when Hanoi and surrounding provinces endured prolonged damp conditions.

While the current cold wave is weakening, leading to slightly warmer temperatures and afternoon sunshine, he cautioned that northern and north-central Vietnam will continue to be impacted by multiple cold fronts throughout February.

These upcoming northeastern monsoons could still trigger widespread cold spells, where daily average temperatures drop below 13 degrees Celsius, causing another round of severe cold conditions in mountainous areas.
