A series of hotels and households along Lam Hoanh Street in Son Tra District under Da Nang City, the capital of central Vietnam, are crying for help with noise pollution from a building project.

Several hoteliers told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that they are facing excessive noise from an underway housing project.

Sound from drills and the impact of equipment and machines from morning till night at the construction site at 254 Vo Nguyen Giap Street have bothered guests in many nearby hotels since the start of 2024.

“Multiple tourists have canceled room bookings, left negative reviews, and given low scores for the affected hotels. Meanwhile, several guests left the noise-hit hotels at midnight due to noise pollution,” according to a petition written by hoteliers in Da Nang.

T.T.H.K., manager of a hotel in Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, noted that their establishments primarily cater to foreign guests, particularly South Koreans. These international tourists seek out the hotels for their tranquil environments, providing them with peaceful spaces to rest and rejuvenate.

However, excessive noise from the construction forced dozens of visitors at her hotel to check out at night a few days ago. They could not sleep due to the loud sound, K. lamented.

“While we can understand the necessity of construction activities, conducting building work late at night is deemed unacceptable,” K. stressed.

Another hotelier, T.Q.H., said that many guests at his hotel complained about noise from the construction project.

“We have had to offer discounts to guests to get them to deal with such pandemonium, leading to a drop in revenue,” H. said.

Following complaints from hoteliers, the People’s Committee of Phuoc My Ward took action by issuing a warning to the owner of the construction project.

The administration instructed the constructor to adhere to the permitted construction hours to address the concerns raised by the affected parties.
