Nguyen Cong Khe and Nguyen Quang Thong, former editors-in-chief of Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper, have been detained for allegedly causing losses to state assets in a real estate deal, Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, said on Tuesday.
Police from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security also searched their residences and workplaces, Xo added.
Findings from police officers showed that Khe, currently board chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corporation, and Thong committed multiple violations during the development of a property project incorporating office building, shopping center, and premium apartment components at 151-155 Ben Van Don Street in Ward 6, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City.
The municipal police departmen is broadening the scope of its investigation to identify any potential violations implicating relevant agencies and individuals, Xo said.
